4-times Soviet Women's Champion, Rubtsova became the world champion in 1956 when she won the 3-player tournament ahead of Bykova and Rudenko. She kept the title for two years before Bykova regained it in a match in 1958.
A great correspondence player, Olga Rubtsova remains the only player in history to become world champion in both over-the-board and correspondence chess.
