If you have visited Madrid recently, you may have run into this character. He calls himself "King Enigma" (Rey Enigma) and he shows up at emblematic landmarks of the Spanish capital, like Parque del Retiro, Gran Via, Opera or Puerta del Sol. Dressed in a black and white checkered jumpsuit that simulates a chessboard and prevents him from being recognised, "King Enigma" challenges passers-by to a blitz game, offering €100 to whoever manages to defeat him.
"King Enigma" is currently in Pamplona for the San Fermin Mundial chess festival, a cultural and gastronomical event that kicks off this weekend, where he will have to face stronger opponents than he is used to. A certain Magnus Carlsen will be the star of the event: the World Champion will arrive in Pamplona this Friday. Will we see Rey Enigma biting the dust for the first time?
